At a time when pro and anti-Telangana forces in the ruling Congress have stepped up their activity to outdo each other, there is a complete silence in the Seemandhra camp of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party.
While Telangana TDP leaders have been quite active holding Ranabheri meetings and issuing press statements, their Seemandhra counterparts are keeping mum.
The party sources say that there is a calculated strategy behind this silence.
The party supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has asked his party leaders in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra to be restrained. They have been asked not to rebut the arguments of their Telangana counterparts nor hold any kind of meetings or rallies.
One reason for this deliberate silence is that the party leadership has got indications from Delhi that the UPA government is unwilling to grant statehood for Telangana.
Instead, it is mulling various other options like creation of autonomous Telangana Regional Council and financial package for development of the region.
In such a case, TDP sees no reason why its Seemandha leaders should hit the streets and waste their energies.
In fact, the party is more anxious to dispel the impression that it is anti-Telangana. Hence, it has been encouraging its Telangana leaders to step up their activity in support of the statehood cause.
